Month 8 -- 26 October 2008 -- War & Religion

Is God really on our side?  Come at 5pm for a discussion of war and religion -- strange bedfellows that have laid down together throughout the ages.  Stay for a special performance of "Nihil Obstat -- Nothing Stands in the Way."  At Studio/Stage, 520 N. Western Av.

  • Saturday, October 11 -- Writing about the War Workshop with playwright EM Lewis in Ashland, OR as part of the Ashland New Plays Festival
  • Thursday, October 30 -- Writing about the War Workshop with playwright EM Lewis at Cal State Fullerton, in Susan Merson's Advanced Playwriting Class

Month 9 -- November 2008 -- Genocide

 
Armenia.  Germany.  Cambodia.  Bosnia.  Rwanda.  Mass killing -- the attempt to utterly eradicate the "enemy" -- has tracked its bloody way through the 20th century.  We'll discuss the causes and effects of genocide.  Stay for a special performance of "Song of Extinction" by EM Lewis.  At [Inside] the Ford.


Month 10 -- December 2008 -- That War, and This One (Vietnam/Iraq)

Come and talk about our foreign wars -- Vietnam and Iraq -- with writers who have engaged the particular challenges of these wars in their work.  At [Inside] the Ford.
